How to get Person Alerts, Vehicle Alerts and other Smart Alerts

With Person Alerts, you can get notified when a person is detected in the field of view on select Ring doorbells and cameras. Vehicle Detection can send you a special Vehicle Alert, record the event or both.

This feature requires a compatible Ring Home subscription.

How to manage Smart Alerts in the Ring app

Smart Alerts are available for battery-powered, solar, plug-in and wired Ring devices. 

To enable Smart Alerts:

1. Tap the

   menu (≡)

   on the top left.
2. Tap

   Devices

   .
3. Tap the device that you want to adjust.
4. Tap

   Motion Settings

   .
5. Tap

   Smart Alerts

   .
6. Tap

   Enable Feature

   .
7. Tap

   Continue

   .
8. Select the notification options that you want for

   Person

   ,

   Vehicle

   and

   Other Motion

   .
   • You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
   • Vehicle Detection will be rolled out over time to eligible Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. More devices will be enabled to use Vehicle Detection in the future. Check Smart Alerts in your Ring app for availability.
9. After you've adjusted your settings tap

   Done.

To access Smart Alerts once you've enabled them:

3. Tap the device that you want to adjust.
4. Tap

   Motion Settings

   .
5. Tap

   Smart Alerts

Note: With only Person Detection enabled on a plug-in or wired device, you may not be able to adjust the Motion Sensitivity slider.

If your camera is unable to identify whether a motion event contains a person, due to lighting, weather or other conditions, you may still get Motion Alerts.

Vehicle Detection tips

• For vehicles in clear view of your camera or in a garage, follow our

  device angle and height guidelines

• If using Vehicle Detection with

  Bird's Eye Zones

  , make sure your Camera Motion Zone and Bird's Eye Zone overlap each other so that both zones cover the area you want to monitor.
• Adjusting Motion Sensitivity or turning off Bird’s Eye Zones can help further customise the area you monitor.
