Chime and Chime Pro setup guide

You can plug your Chime or Chime Pro into an outlet to hear customisable audio alerts when motion is detected or someone rings your doorbell. Learn more about customising your Chime.

Setting up Chime and Chime Pro

Connect your Chime or Chime Pro to your home's wifi network using the Ring app.

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap
    Setup a Device
    at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap
    Chimes
    .
  4. Select your location or Add a New Location.
  5. Tap
    I’m Ready to Scan
    and scan the QR code. If the QR code does not scan, tap
    Other Options
    and scan the barcode or enter the QR PIN manually.
  6. Allow Location Services when prompted.
  7. Select the location where you are adding Chime or Chime Pro or tap Add a New Location to enter a new address.
  8. Choose a name for your Chime.
  9. Tap
    I Have My Password
    .
  10. Tap
    I Am Near The Device
    .
  11. Plug your chime into a wall outlet.
    • If the light is flashing, tap
      The light is flashing
    • If the light is not flashing, press and hold the button on the side of the chime for five seconds.
  12. Have your wifi password ready to enter.
  13. When prompted, join the Ring wifi network.
  14. Select your wifi network from the list and enter your wifi password.
  15. Wait for the device to connect to the network, then complete setup.

Using Chime Pro as a wifi extender

Connect your Ring device(s) to the Chime Pro network to improve wifi signal strength. You can select which Ring devices you want to connect to Chime Pro during the setup process or from the device’s settings in the Ring app. If you are using Chime Pro as a wifi extender, choose a location that is halfway between your wifi router and the Ring device that is furthest away.

Connecting Chime Pro to your Ring device(s) during setup:

  1. Tap
    Connect
    when prompted.
  2. Tap on the Ring device that should be connected to the Chime Pro network.
  3. Tap on
    Switch to Chime Pro Network
    .
  4. Tap on
    Connect to Chime Pro
    .
  5. Wait for the Ring device to go into setup mode. If the Ring device does not go into setup mode, firmly press and hold the setup button for 1 or 2 seconds, then release it.
  6. When the Ring device is in setup mode, tap
    Continue
    .
  7. After the Ring video doorbell connects, tap on
    Got it
    .
  8. Tap on
    I'm Done
    .

Connecting Chime pro to your Ring device(s) from the device’s settings in the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
  3. Tap your device's settings.
  4. Select
    Device Health
    .
  5. Tap
    Change Network
    .
  6. Tap
    Change Wifi Network
    .
  7. Tap
    Connect to Chime Pro
    .
