Using Snapshot Capture in the Ring App

Learn how to turn Snapshot Capture on and off, adjust settings, and download snapshots in the Ring app.

This feature requires a compatible Ring Home subscription.

With Snapshot Capture, you can see what's happening between motion activated events with reoccurring photo snapshots taken throughout the day.¹ Snapshots are viewable on the Event History Timeline in the Ring app. Snapshots cannot be viewed from the Ring website.

Turning Snapshot Capture on or off

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the Device Settings tile.

  5. Tap
    Snapshot Capture
    .
  6. Tap the toggle to turn Snapshot Capture on or off.

Changing your Snapshot Storage Time

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the menu (☰).
  3. Tap Control Center.
  4. Tap
    Video and Snapshot Storage
    .
  5. Tap
    Edit
    next to the Ring device you want to adjust Storage Time, or
    Edit All
    to adjust for all cameras.
  6. Scroll down to Snapshot Storage Time, and select your preferred storage time.
  7. Tap
    Save
    .

Changing your Snapshot Frequency

Adjusting how often you want your Ring device to take a snapshot. If your Ring device is battery-powered, increasing Snapshot Capture frequency may reduce battery life.

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the Device Settings tile.

  5. Tap
    Snapshot Capture
    .
  6. Under Snapshot Frequency, select your preferred frequency.
  7. Tap
    Save
    when done.

Viewing and downloading snapshots

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the camera preview to open Live View on your Ring device.

  3. If you have Tap Camera Preview for Live View turned on, tap
    End live
    to access the Event History Timeline.
  4. Slide the Event History Timeline to see snapshots between Motion Event markers.
  5. To download, tap the more icon
    (•••)
    .
  6. Tap
    Snapshot
    to download a snapshot or
    Download
    to download the entire footage.
  7. If prompted, tap
    Allow
    to save to your mobile device's camera roll.

How to delete snapshots

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the camera preview to open Live View on your Ring device.

  3. If you have Tap Camera Preview for Live View turned on, tap
    End live
    to then access the Event History Timeline.
  4. Slide the Event History Timeline to where you want to delete snapshots.
  5. Tap the more icon
    (•••)
    .
  6. Tap
    Delete
    .
  7. Tap
    Delete snapshots
    to confirm.

Snapshot Capture photos in the cloud can be stored up to 14 days. Storage options vary based on your Ring Home Subscription Plan.
