Controlling Ring Devices With Shared Users and Guest Users

After setting up a device, you will automatically be assigned the owner user role. As the owner, you can grant additional users access to the device by making them Shared Users or, for Alarm only, Guest Users.

What are Shared Users?

A Shared User cannot change system settings or account information but can view cameras and view and share videos. Access to particular cameras can be granted or denied by the owner.

What can Shared Users do?

For Ring doorbells and cameras:

• Access Live View.
• View and share video clips.²
• View Event History.²
• Can receive and control notifications.

For Ring Alarm system:

• View and control a Base Station.
• Lock and unlock connected locks.
• Arm and disarm¹ the Ring Alarm system.

Ring Alarm and all Ring Alarm accessories require a compatible Ring subscription (sold separately) for digital arming/disarming and certain other in-app features.

For Ring Smart Lighting:

• Adjust Motion Alerts from the Ring app for their own account.
• Adjust Motion Snooze in the Ring app for their own account.
• Adjust Light Brightness of shared lights.
  • Changes to Light Brightness made by a Shared User will be reflected for both the owner and the Shared User.
• Activate shared lights.
• Adjust Light Activation Duration, per device.
• Toggle shared lights.
  • Changes to the Lights Toggle made by a Shared User will be reflected for both the owner and the Shared User.
• Mark mail as retrieved on the Mailbox Sensor.
  • Owners with the Shared Alerts toggle enabled will get a notification if a Shared User marks mail as retrieved.

Shared Users cannot access

For Ring doorbells, Ring cameras, and Ring Alarm:

• Subscribe to a Ring subscription for a device when another person is the Account Owner.
• Delete stored videos or shared videos.
• Remove devices from the Account Owner's account.
• Change or adjust any device settings.
• Add other Shared Users.

For Ring Smart Lighting Devices:

• Adjust the Auto-Shutoff Timer.
• Adjust the Light Sensor or Light Sensor Threshold settings.
• Adjust Motion Detection or Motion Sensitivity settings.
• Create or edit Light Schedules or Motion Schedules and their settings.
• Unregister a Ring Smart Lighting device.
• Change a device or group name.
• Move and remove devices from a group.
• Lock and unlock connected locks using an access number.
• Arm and disarm¹ the Ring Alarm system from the Keypad using an access number.

Note: Shared Users cannot be added to the following Ring devices or Works with Ring products:

• Smart Lighting Bridge
• Ring Chime devices
• Ring Alarm sensors
• Level Lock Bolt or Level Lock Touch

Camera access with Ring Alarm

If Ring cameras, doorbells, and Ring Alarm are present at a one location, all Shared Users can access all the cameras and doorbells there by default. This is, however, at the owner’s discretion. An owner can limit any Shared or Guest User’s access to cameras and doorbells at their location.

What is a Guest User?

Guest User is only available for the Ring Alarm system and is the lowest level of system access. Guest Users are able to use some aspects of the Alarm system by using an access number provided by the owner, but cannot configure the Ring Alarm or alter account/payment information.

Guest Users can:

• Lock and unlock connected locks using an access number.
• Arm and disarm¹ the Ring Alarm system from the Keypad using an access number.
