Connecting your Ring doorbell to an existing in-home chime

You can configure compatible Ring doorbells to work with your existing in-home chime via the Ring app. When setup is complete, your in-home chime will sound when someone presses your Ring doorbell.

Configuring your Ring doorbell to an existing in-home chime in the Ring app requires the following:

Note: For Ring doorbells that are not compatible with existing chimes, add a Ring Chime or Ring Chime Pro to your network, or connect to an Echo (Alexa) device to receive audio alerts in your home.


Detect and connect your in-home chime

Compatible Ring doorbells that are hardwired to an existing in-home chime kit must be configured through the Ring app to work with your in-home chime.

For doorbells that require a hardwired power source:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile.
  5. Tap
    In-home Chime Settings
    .
  6. Select your
    Chime Type
    (Mechanical, Digital, or None)
  7. Tap the toggle to turn
    on
    or turn
    off
    your in-home doorbell chime.
  8. Tap
    Save
    in the upper right to save your changes.

For battery-powered devices that are hardwired to your in-home chime:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap
    In-home Chime Settings
    .
  5. Tap
    Automatic Chime Detection
    .
    • Wait for the Ring app to detect your in-home chime.
    • Choose “
      Yes, I have an in-home chime
      .”
    • Tap
      Ring my In-home Chime
      .
    • Push the button on your Ring doorbell.
      • If it doesn’t ring correctly, select one of these options:
        “My chime rang partially”
        or
        “My chime didn’t ring.”
    • The Ring app will adjust the device settings automatically and prompt you to test your doorbell again.
  6. If the app is unable to detect an in-home chime, follow the steps below to
    manually
    configure.
    • Tap
      Advanced Settings
      .
    • Select your Chime Type (Mechanical, Digital Type 1, or Digital Type 2).
    • Tap
      Continue
      .
    • Tap
      Ring my in-home chime
      .
    • Follow the prompts in the app to complete the test.
