Managing alerts for Ring doorbells and cameras
You can adjust the settings for your doorbells and cameras to hear Ring Alerts when someone presses your doorbell and Motion Alerts when your doorbell or camera detects motion. Set up Motion Schedules to turn off alerts for periods of time when you do not want to hear them.
Adjusting Ring Alerts and Motion Alerts
Control the type of alerts you receive by following these steps in the Ring app:
Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
Tap your device's Settings.
- At the top of the screen, you can toggle the following on or off:
- Ring Alerts(doorbells) - Toggle on to receive an alert when someone rings the doorbell.
- Motion Detection -Toggle on for recording and alerts when your device detects motion.
- Motion Alerts -Toggle on to receive an alert when your device detects motion.
- Motion Warning(compatible devices) - Motion Warning is a voice announcement feature that can play when motion is detected on select doorbells and cameras.
- You can choose the tone you will hear when motion is detected or the doorbell is pressed.
Using Motion Settings to control alerts
The number of motion events will affect the number of alerts you receive. You can increase or decrease the amount of motion that your devices detect by adjusting Motion Settings found on the device’s page in the Ring app.
Motion Sensitivity: Move the slider to increase or decrease the amount of motion your device detects.
Smart Alerts: You can enable Smart Alerts on your doorbell or camera to improve motion accuracy in detecting people and other objects, including packages. To turn on Smart Alerts, tap the Motion Settings tile on the device’s page in the Ring app. A Ring Home Plan is required to use Smart Alerts. Learn more about Smart Alerts. Advanced Settings: Enable Advanced Motion Detection to reduce unwanted alerts and choose how often your device checks for motion by adjusting the Motion Frequency. Learn more about Motion Settings.
Motion Schedules: With Motion Schedules, you can schedule periods of time when you will not receive alerts from your Ring device. Learn more about Motion Schedules.
Managing Alert Tones
You can select and adjust the alert sounds that you hear for each of your devices, so you can distinguish the alert sound of your video doorbells from your security cameras.
Adjusting Alert Tones in the Ring app
Follow these steps in the Ring app to adjust the sound you will hear from your Ring Alerts:
Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
Tap your device's Settings.
Tap the Device Settings tile.
- TapNotification Settingsand selectApp Alert Tones.
- For doorbells, tapRing Alerts, then tapSoundand select the tone you will hear when someone presses the doorbell button.
- Tap the back button on the top left to go back to the previous menu.
- For doorbells and cameras, tapMotion Alerts, then tapSoundand select the tone you will hear when motion is detected.
- Tap the back button on the top left to go back to the previous menu.
Adjusting the sound for Chime or Chime Pro Alerts
You can adjust the sound you hear for Ring and Motion Alerts from your Chime or Chime Pro. Learn more about adjusting Chime Alert tones.
Troubleshooting Alert Tones on iOS (Apple) devices
You may experience shorter Alert Tones on iOS devices that run iOS version 16. You will notice it on long Ring Alert Tone sounds, such as "Ring Default (Plays 4x)". This is an Apple issue and requires updating your Apple device’s operating system to iOS 17.
Getting Ring and Motion Alerts from Echo devices

Receiving alerts in Do Not Disturb Mode
You can adjust the settings on your Android or Apple device to receive alerts from Ring when Do Not Disturb is on. Priority Alerts lets you receive alerts from your Ring doorbell or camera when Apple device is in Do Not Disturb mode. This feature can be found in the Notification Settings of the Ring app on Apple devices and requires a Ring Home Plan.
For iOS devices, follow these steps in the Ring app to set up Priority Alerts:
Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
Tap your device's Settings.
Tap the Device Settings tile.
- TapNotification Settings.
- TapPriority Alerts,then tapAllow.Follow the prompts to enable the feature in your Apple device settings.

Pausing alerts from cameras and doorbells
You can stop alerts for your Ring doorbells and cameras for chosen periods of time.
Using Global Snooze to pause alerts for all cameras and doorbells
You can stop Motion Alerts for all your doorbells and cameras with Alerts Snooze. Note: Doorbell Rings and Priority Alerts will remain on. To turn Alerts Snooze on or off for all cameras and doorbells, follow these steps in the Ring app:
- Tap the motion (crescent moon) icon at the top of your screen.
- To turn on Alerts Snooze, choose theSnooze Durationtime and tapStart Snooze.Note:If you are subscribed to a, your Ring cameras and doorbells will continue to record events.
- To turn off Alerts Snooze, tap theEnd Snooze.
Using Alerts Snooze for one camera or doorbell
You can temporarily silence Motion Alerts for a single doorbell or camera. Note: Doorbell Rings and Priority Alerts will remain on.
Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.
- Tap the bell icon to turn Alerts Snooze on or off.
Not receiving alerts
If you are not receiving alerts, make sure that your Ring devices are online and Do Not Disturb is turned off on your phone or tablet.
